Clayton Moore not only played the Lone Ranger, he was the Lone Ranger. So when a corporation bought the rights to the Lone Ranger and forbade him from portraying this American hero any longer, it was an offense to fans everywhere. I was so incensed that I wrote a song, "Put the Mask Back On the Ranger" which received lots of airplay. Clayton Moore got in touch with me and arranged to meet me when he came to New England. I gave him an autographed copy of the record and he gave me an autographed picture and a silver bullet. We remained pen pals for a long time after and I have a collection of memorabilia that he sent me over the years.
